His interest in skin cancer and skin surgery began when he worked in Waikato Hospital in the plastic surgery ward as a young doctor.
Over 35 years he has seen a very large range of skin cancers and sun damaged skin. During that time he has gained extensive experience and expertise in the surgical removal of skin cancers and melanoma using grafts and skin flaps.
He holds the Australian Diploma of Dermoscopy where the emphasis is placed on early and accurate diagnosis of all skin cancers, not just melanoma. The dermatoscope is used to examine the skin by surface microscopy. Suspicious moles and lesions are digitally imaged and recorded for future comparison.
