Axillary Hyperhydrosis;

Treatment for excessive underarm sweating.

Excessive underarm sweating is a very common problem and the cause of much personal distress, requiring the patient to wear darker clothing, use more liberal deodorants and often 2-3 changes of shirt per day. Sufferers will often avoid social occasions and feel compromised in work situations among their working colleagues.

It is due to excessive production of sweat from sweat glands typically underarm and on the palms of the hands. It is often aggravated by stress.

Previously, the only treatments consisted of applying an Aluminium Hydroxide solution to the underarms, or surgical division of the cervical sympathetic chain in the region of the neck (or destroying this structure with phenol injections). One problem encountered with this technique, was the possibility that sweating was simply shifted to another area of the body as a reflex response.

Now with botox injections into the underarm skin, this frustrating condition has a simple treatment with very predictable outcomes. The procedure involves about 20 tiny injections of Botox into each underarm, into the superficial part of the skin (intradermal). Typically 100 - 120 iu of Botox are used for this purpose and treatment takes about 15 minutes only. Reduction in sweating usually commences in about 3 to 5 days and can last from 9 months to 1 year typically.
